Published on January 8, 2020, an investigation by Nyakundi Report has revealed that Appliances Kenya, an online retailer, has failed to deliver goods ordered by customers and paid for in advance.
The goods, advertised during the Black Friday campaign in November, were expected to be delivered within seven days after payment. However, most customers are yet to receive their goods, with some orders dating back to November 2019.
According to a statement posted on the retailer's Facebook page on December 11, 2019, the goods were allegedly stolen due to an internal security lapse. The statement read, 'The current backlog in deliveries has been occasioned by internal security lapse that saw an assortment of goods stolen. The same is under investigation and has been reported at Kabete Police Station under OB 94/04/12/19.'
One of the affected customers, Grace Muthoni, ordered goods worth Sh64,975 from the online shop between November 2, 2019, and November 20, 2019. She never received the items, which included a fridge, a water dispenser, two home theatres, a cooker, microwave, and a TV stand.
Appliances Kenya, which has been in operation for the last three years, claimed efforts were being made to resume operations. However, the phone number provided for customers to inquire about refunds or delivery of goods has been switched off for close to a month.
