Manchester City's quest for a third consecutive League Cup final received a significant boost after they outplayed Manchester United 3-1 in the semi-final, first-leg match at Old Trafford on January 7, 2020.

The visitors were in top form, with Bernardo Silva's stunning strike, Riyad Mahrez's composed finish, and an own goal from Andreas Pereira giving them a commanding lead before the break.

United's captain, Marcus Rashford, managed to reduce the deficit with a goal 20 minutes from time, but the hosts face a daunting task when the two teams meet again for the second leg on January 29.

Manchester City's victory marked their third consecutive win at Old Trafford and their fourth in five derbies on the road since Pep Guardiola took charge.
