On January 7, 2020, Ireland and Kenya signed a Sh112 million agreement to train Kenyan dairy farmers.

The Irish government's commitment aims to improve the Kenyan dairy sector's productivity and contribute to the country's food security.

According to Ireland's Minister for Business Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys, the adoption of new husbandry methods and technology will significantly enhance the country's dairy and beef sectors.

Ms. Humphreys stated, 'We have signed an investment worth Sh112.3 million with the Kenya Agriculture and Livestock Research Organisation (Kalro) to educate dairy farmers in Kenya in forage, breeding, and food processing.'

Kenya's agricultural sector faces challenges, including a lack of an established export system for milk, leaving farmers vulnerable to price fluctuations.

The Irish government is also supporting potato farming in Nyandarua through a programme that began in 2018, providing farmers with high-yielding seed varieties.
