On January 7, 2020, a woman and her four children were rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in critical condition after a botched suicide attempt.
Mercy Anyango, 29, and her children aged 13, nine, seven, and five were admitted with open wounds caused by knife stabs.
According to eyewitnesses, Anyango had stabbed the children and turned the knife on herself after a domestic misunderstanding with her husband.
Neighbours broke into the house to save the five before rushing them to hospital.
Anyango, who is married to George Oketch in Kosele, Homa Bay County, had separated from her husband of five children following numerous domestic squabbles.
She claimed that Oketch had been stalking her and threatening to kill her, forcing her to move to Awasi in Kisumu County.
Oketch denied being the cause of the botched suicide, stating that Anyango had moved out of their family home with all their children.
Dr. Brian Amata confirmed that the patients are out of danger despite the numerous injuries sustained.
