On January 7, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Guinea Bissau President-Elect Umaro Cissoko Embalo met at State House, Mombasa, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties between their countries.

President Kenyatta congratulated President-Elect Embalo on his recent win and urged him to bring the people of Guinea Bissau together, emphasizing the importance of unity for national development.

The two leaders identified key areas for cooperation, including the exchange of students and teachers, technical training, trade, and security.

They also resolved to work together to bridge the gap between East and West Africa through enhanced people-to-people interactions, aiming to boost continental integration efforts.

President-Elect Embalo thanked President Kenyatta for his leadership in African integration and efforts to ensure sustainable peace and stability on the continent.

He recalled the strong historical ties between Kenya and Guinea Bissau dating back to pre-colonial times and expressed a desire to consolidate and expand their areas of cooperation.

President Kenyatta accepted an invitation to attend President-Elect Embalo's inauguration as the Chief Guest and wished him and the people of Guinea Bissau success.
