As Nairobi families return to their daily routines after the Christmas break, many are facing a new challenge: their house helps have failed to report back to work.
It's a common practice for house helps to take a long break during the festive season to spend time with their families, but they are expected to return before the schools reopen in January.
However, it appears that many house helps in Nairobi have decided to quit without notice, leaving their employers high and dry.
Some are complaining about being asked for money to cover their transport costs, with one online user joking that 'nannies have joined slay queens this season to eat fare.'
Others are sharing their own experiences of being left stranded, with one user stating, 'I thought I was the only victim. I sent fare a few days ago, and now the phone is off.'
As one user aptly put it, 'Wacha tutuongezea stress we already have fees to deal with.'
