On January 6, a 40-year-old man plunged to his death at Adlife Plaza in Nairobi, sparking rumors of a tragic bet gone wrong.

However, his mother has come forward to deny these claims, stating that her son had never even seen or handled Ksh. 1 million.

According to police, Richard Wangai arrived at Adlife Plaza at 4:04 p.m. and visited different stores for over an hour before jumping from the 4th floor at 5:24 p.m.

On his person were his Identity card and a rosary, with police saying he said a prayer before fatally thudding against the concrete floor.

Initial media reports suggested that Wangai had lost Ksh. 15 million in a failed windfall bid at a city Casino, claims that his mother has now vehemently dismissed.

Police say Wangai's mother arrived at the Kilimani Police Station early on January 7 to file her statement, where she provided details of her son's final hours.

“He had never even seen or handled Ksh. 1 million,” she told police, adding that Wangai looked after her farm in Kwale and was in Nairobi to visit family and friends for the End of Year festivities.

Wangai's body was moved to the City Mortuary, with police yet to determine the cause of his suicidal thoughts.
