On January 7, 2020, a school in Dadaab, Kenya, was closed indefinitely following an attack by Al-Shabaab militants.

According to Garissa County Commissioner Mweru Mwangi, Saretho Boarding Primary School was closed indefinitely after the attack.

Four civilians and two suspected militants were killed in the pre-dawn attack, which occurred around 2:30 am in the Saretho area.

The attack targeted a Safaricom mast, and a teacher and a child were among the innocent lives lost.

County Education Director Khalif Issack immediately closed the school after the incident, citing the need for parents to keep their children at home until normalcy returns.

"We are requesting the parents of the children who did not report to school to stay at home. The school is closed until normalcy returns," Issack said.
