On December 29, 2019, the body of Meshack Keith Bwisa, a 27-year-old employee of the Kenya Revenue Authority's registry department in Kakamega, was found in his house.
Bwisa had gone missing since December 25, 2019, and his body was discovered by law enforcement agents from Kakamega Town.
According to Kakamega Central OCPD David Kabena, a suicide note was found next to Bwisa's body, which revealed the tragic circumstances of his death.
As reported by OCPD Kabena, the note blamed frustrations arising from unsuccessful bets as the reason for Bwisa's suicidal idea.
In the note, Bwisa also advised the youth and his family members to refrain from betting, saying it ends up impoverishing people.
These words of caution come too late for Bwisa, but they serve as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of betting.
As the community mourns the loss of this young life, it is essential to reflect on the warning signs and take action to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
