Published on January 7, 2020, residents of Gatong'ora and Kwihota villages in Ruiru, Kiambu County, are expressing their discontent over the rapid deterioration of the 3.7 kilometer Rainbow Hotel Eastern Bypass Road, which was constructed less than a year ago.

The road, which was commissioned by the Kiambu County Government a few months ago, was meant to alleviate the perennial traffic jam along the Eastern bypass. However, it appears that this was not a long-term solution.

The road has started showing signs of ruin, evident in the increasing number of potholes. Led by Peter Mwai, the residents accuse the contractor, Testimony Enterprise Ltd, of not adhering to the stipulated standards of building tarmac roads set by the government.

The contractor has been under scrutiny after its directors were charged in court, along with Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari, in connection with a 588 million shillings road construction scandal.
