On January 7, 2020, a court in Nairobi dealt a blow to the estate of late Cabinet minister and business tycoon Njenga Karume, declining to stop the auction of Jacaranda Hotel to recover a Sh257.6 million bank loan.
The court, led by Justice Wilfrida Okwany, instead ordered the hotel to pay Sh4.5 million to Guaranty Trust Bank as part of clearing the arrears it owes the lender.
The payment is to be made directly to the bank by Friday this week, and the court also directed that no further advertisements be placed by the bank, as they may impact the Karume estate.
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is also seeking to recover taxes owed by the four-star hotel.
