On August 2019, leaders in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya, cautioned parents against marrying off their pregnant schoolgirls, instead urging them to support the girls' education.
Speaking at a mentorship program in Kaptanglas village, Turbo Member of Parliament Janet Sitienei condemned the high rate of teenage pregnancies that have led to many girls dropping out of school.
She warned men who take advantage of vulnerable girls from poor families, stating that such behavior would no longer be tolerated.
Meanwhile, in Kisii County, 232 students from Nyamache and Marani sub-counties benefited from the Elimu scholarship program, a government-funded initiative supported by the World Bank and the Equity Group Foundation.
The scholarship program aims to reduce the number of students seeking CDF support, allowing the county government to support other needy students, according to Bobasi Member of Parliament Innocent Obiri.
