On January 7, 2020, Miguna Miguna was set to return to Kenya after a High Court order, but he was barred from leaving Berlin by the government.

According to Miguna, the government had issued a red alert to Lufthansa Airlines, preventing him from traveling to Kenya or any other African country.

Speaking to Hot 96, Miguna stated that the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination had issued the red alert, barring the airline from flying him to Kenya.

The High Court had ordered the government to facilitate Miguna's return and hand over his passport upon arrival at the JKIA.

However, the government claims it has no issue with Miguna's return, despite the Immigration Department announcing it would comply with the court order.

On December 14, 2018, the High Court had ordered the government to facilitate Miguna's return, and the Immigration Department had announced it would comply with the order.

Immigration Director-General Alexander Muteshi stated, 'The Directorate has been informed that Dr Miguna Miguna will travel to Kenya on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. The Directorate will facilitate Dr Miguna's entry into Kenya.'

Miguna Miguna was previously arrested and deported to Canada in March 2018 for presiding over the swearing-in of ODM leader Raila Odinga as the people's president.
