US Embassies Warn Americans of Potential Attacks in Middle East ¶
Following the targeted killing of Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani, a senior Iranian commander, US embassies in Jerusalem and other parts of the Middle East have issued security alerts warning Americans of potential attacks from Iran.
On Monday, the US Embassy in Jerusalem told Americans to watch out for 'mortars and rocket fire,' while the US Mission in Saudi Arabia warned citizens to be prepared for 'missile and drone attacks' a day earlier.
The security alerts come as Iranian military leaders vow to avenge General Suleimani's death, with Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urging retaliation against the US.
At General Suleimani's funeral in Tehran on Monday, military commanders promised vengeance, with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps leader, Hossein Salami, vowing to 'set ablaze' places where Americans and their allies live.
Thousands of mourners attended the funeral procession, with chants of 'Death to America' and 'Death to Israel' ringing out from the crowds.
Iran's military leaders have promised to take revenge for General Suleimani's death, with his successor, Esmail Ghaani, saying that 'actions will be taken' to avenge his killing.
