On January 7, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta sent a message of condolence to the family, relatives, and friends of Mama Martha Kirigo Gachagua, mother of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.
Mama Martha was a kind and hardworking woman who raised an outstanding family, including her son, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, and her late husband, former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua.
According to the President, Mama Kirigo was a gracious and courageous woman who raised a successful family and mentored many in her community.
He described her as a strong pillar in her community, saying she will forever be remembered and cherished for her generosity and distinguished role in community service.
The President also highlighted Mama Martha's contribution to society and the country, saying it is reflected in her children's contribution to Kenya's socio-economic transformation.
He added that Mama Kirigo has been a role model as a successful farmer and businesswoman whose legacy will continue to be a reference point for many generations to come.
President Kenyatta also condoled the family of Laikipia politician, the late Christopher Maitho Murigu, describing him as a friendly person whose politics of unity and development endeared him to many people in Laikipia and across the country.
