Kenya is set to host the Safari Rally, a prestigious motorsport event, after a nearly two-decade absence from the World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar.
Organisers of the Safari Rally are in the process of finalising the route for the championship, with the itinerary for the July contest already released.
According to Anwar Sidi, a member of the team working on the planned route, their plans are working well and they are looking forward to a successful return of the Safari Rally to the WRC calendar.
The rally will take place from July 16 to 19, with the official reconnaissance of the route scheduled from July 13 to July 15.
‘’Our plans are well on course to stage a successful modern WRC round in Africa after an absence of almost two decades,’’ Sidi told Nation Sport.
The championship will have 19 competitive stages, including the Super Spectator Stage at Kasarani.
Representatives from the FIA, the world motorsport governing body, have been in Kenya to confirm the proposed route and itinerary for the July event.
Kenya was granted the World Rally Championship status for the 2020 season, putting the country back in the limelight of the global racing scene after losing the WRC status in 2002.
