On January 6, 2020, Hilda Mumo, a resident of Kiou village in Kasikeu, Kilome sub-county, Makueni, gave birth to quadruplets at Makindu sub-county hospital.

Initially, Mumo had undergone an ultrasound scan at three months of pregnancy, which indicated she was carrying triplets. However, during a C-section on Monday, a doctor discovered a fourth baby.

"When I was three months pregnant, I went for an ultra-sound and I was informed I was carrying triplets. I was happy to wait for the triplets only to get the fourth baby," said Mumo.

After developing a headache, Mumo visited Sultan-Hamud hospital, but upon arrival, she experienced strong cramping in her abdomen, prompting the hospital to refer her to Makindu sub-county hospital.

At Makindu, Mumo underwent a C-section, and the doctor removed three of the babies, but a fourth remained, which was also removed.

"I request for assistance, it's hard to feed such a number of kids," said Mumo, expressing her concerns about raising the quadruplets.

According to medics, the male baby weighed 2 kgs, while two of the female babies weighed 2 kgs each, and the last one weighed 1.3 kgs. The babies were born before the expected 9 months period.
