Published on January 6, 2020, a lobby group called Women in Business (WIB) has urged leaders of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to consider offering a seven-year tax holiday to youth-owned businesses.
The group's CEO, Mary Muthoni, believes that this incentive would encourage more young people and women to engage in business, thereby contributing to the country's economic growth.
"Youth and women are crucial in the development of our economy, and a tax holiday would play a significant role in encouraging a large number of them to engage in business," Muthoni said.
She also called for policies and incentives that would promote village-based enterprises, known as "biashara mashinani," to help grow businesses at the grassroots level.
According to Muthoni, policies that promote small and medium-sized enterprises would be beneficial to youth and women in society.
Other participants at a forum reviewing the BBI report emphasized the importance of financial inclusivity, investments, and ensuring equity in economic participation.
Wiper Party Senator Judith Sijeny urged Kenyans to engage with the BBI report and make informed decisions to improve their living standards.
