On January 6, 2020, the High Court in Kenya ordered the government to facilitate the return of lawyer Miguna Miguna, who was due to arrive in the country on January 7, 2020, aboard Lufthansa Flight LH 590.
Justice Weldon Korir directed the release of Dr. Miguna's passport, which was under the custody of the registrar of the High Court.
Dr. Miguna had filed an application stating that he was due to return to Kenya and that his return should be facilitated on the basis of his constitutional right as a Kenyan and the force of orders issued by the High Court.
Responding to the court order, the Interior Ministry stated that it would facilitate Dr. Miguna's return 'in compliance with the court's order.'
Dr. Miguna's return to Kenya was not without controversy, as he was first deported in February 2018 and had previously attempted to return to the country on March 26, 2018, but was unsuccessful.
