Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's tenure has been marred by controversy, including a graft case that barred him from office.
Despite this, on January 6, 2020, he nominated Anne Kananu Mwenda as Deputy Governor in a letter to Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
The nomination letter cited the need for continuity, a clear reference to the challenges facing the Nairobi County government.
