Published on January 6, 2020, parents and stakeholders of Suna Primary School in Homa Bay County took drastic measures to address the school's poor performance in last year's KCPE. The school attained a mean score of 213, with only three out of 18 candidates scoring above 250 marks.
The parents accused the head teacher, Peter Anyal, of running down the institution ever since he was posted seven years ago. They claimed that Anyal has been embezzling school funds and imposing charges on parents that were not sanctioned by anyone.
Godfrey Ombogo, the school patron, stated, "In 2019, he did not hold a single meeting with the parents and Board of Management (BoM).">
The parents have visited the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Rachuonyo East sub-county director's office several times, seeking an intervention but to no avail. John Owino, a stakeholder, said, "We cannot sit and watch as one man 'kills' a school that gave us the foundation of what we are today. If the TSC is not ready to give us a new head teacher, then we will do without one,"
The parents said they would camp at the school gate up to the end of the week to ensure Mr. Anyal does not access his office. By press time today, the staffroom, the head teacher's office, and the main gate remained locked as the angry parents pitched camp.
