On December 28, 2019, a class four girl was brutally defiled and murdered in Lwanda B Village, East Kanyamwa, Ndhiwa Sub County. Her body was found dumped along a path, sparking outrage in the community.
Following the incident, Homa Bay County leaders, including Kanyamwa Kosewe MCA Nicholas Owaka and former Public Service Member Florence Ouma, called for justice to be served to the slain girl's family. Addressing journalists at Ndhiwa Police station, Owaka urged residents to cooperate with police in identifying more suspects and bringing them to justice.
"Suspects who killed the young girl are people in this community, which means there is someone who knows them. Let us avoid protecting criminals and report the matter to the police," Owaka told residents.
Ndhiwa Sub-county Police Commander Evans Ombui confirmed that the 21-year-old suspect was being detained at Ndhiwa Police station and was still being interrogated to gather more information. Ombui also stated that the police were still looking for more suspects.
