On Sunday evening, police in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, thwarted an attempted breach of a highly secured British military camp, arresting three suspected terrorists in the process.
According to Rift Valley police commander Marcus Ocholla, the suspects were not armed but had sinister motives. The trio is currently being interrogated by detectives and Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) officers.
Police report that the presence of suspicious characters was reported to the authorities, who swiftly moved to the camp and arrested the three. The suspects' photos, captured by CCTV, were circulated, alerting the authorities to their presence.
As the chief and security officers were following up leads, they found the suspects near Nanyuki Police Station, where they were arrested and booked in vide OB 35/5/1/2019. Investigations are ongoing.
When questioned about the incident, Ocholla stated, "We cannot give more details at the moment but the issue is being handled by anti-terror unit." He also noted, "The suspects have been subjected to thorough interrogation to establish what their plans were," and added, "We cannot rule out terrorism. Why would people try to gain entry to an international camp?"
