On January 5, 2020, three individuals attempted to break into the British Army Training Unit in Kenya (Batuk) in Nanyuki, Laikipia County. The incident occurred on the same day that Somalia's al Shabaab militant group attacked a military base in Manda Bay, Lamu County, leaving three Americans dead.

According to Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya, the suspects were tracked down after they failed to force their way into the army base. They were arrested near Nanyuki Police Station, a few meters from the army base, at around 5pm.

Mr. Natembeya stated that the suspects were found with cameras, but the motive behind their actions remains unclear. The suspects are being interrogated by detectives to determine the truth.

The British Army base in Nanyuki has been the subject of surveillance, and the footage was circulated among local law enforcers, leading to the arrest of the three individuals.
