On January 6, 2020, a shocking incident unfolded at the Ground for God's Gospel Ministries in Chembani, leaving residents in shock.
Elisha Misiko, a 55-year-old pastor, was going through marital wrangles with his wife Anne. The couple's troubles had been ongoing, with Elisha being forced to cater for their three kids while being denied access to them.
During a live service, Elisha stabbed his wife before turning the knife on himself. A congregant described the horrific scene, saying, 'He stabbed himself three times in the stomach and then slit his throat.'
Another congregant, Martias Chacha, recalled the events leading up to the tragedy, 'I was leading worship and I had not closed my eyes. I saw him stand up and remove an envelope while people were praying. After that he stood up and maybe he wanted to give another pastor an envelope. That is when he stabbed her.'
Elisha's actions were a culmination of the marital tensions that had been building up. The couple's relationship had deteriorated to the point where they were no longer able to work together as pastors.
