On January 6, 2020, a shocking incident occurred at the Ground for Jesus church in Bamburi, Mombasa, where pastor Elisha Misiko, aged 55, stabbed his wife at the pulpit during a church service.
According to Kisauni police boss, Misiko stabbed himself and died on the spot, while his wife died later at Coast General Hospital while receiving treatment.
The couple had been experiencing family issues, including disagreements over property and infidelity, which they had reported to the police station in Bamburi.
Police reports indicate that Misiko called his wife to the pulpit as the service was underway and stabbed her in the presence of the congregation.
A member of the public described the incident, saying, 'He was seated and then walked towards the wife and pretended to be giving her something. It's then that he removed a knife. He acted as if he wanted to whisper something. On seeing the knife the wife turned and it's then that he stabbed her on the back. When he tried to stab her on the chest she blocked it. He actually thought he had killed her immediately but she died later.'
Their bodies are currently lying at Coast General Mortuary, awaiting postmortem as police begin investigations.
