January 6, 2020 - Transsion Holdings' Infinix and Tecno brands are gearing up to dominate the smartphone market in Africa and beyond with the introduction of pop-up cameras in their upcoming devices.
Having led the charge with notched displays in 2019, the two brands are now shifting focus to 'all-screen' smartphones with pop-up cameras.
According to reports, Infinix is expected to launch the first pop-up camera smartphone as early as February, followed closely by Tecno.
Details of the devices remain scarce, but industry watchers expect the brands to make a significant impact in the market with these new features.
As of Q3 2019, Tecno and Infinix collectively accounted for 13% of the smartphone market in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, with Tecno edging out Huawei in the number 2 position.
Notably, Huawei was the first to introduce budget smartphones with pop-up cameras, including the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 and the Huawei Y9s.
