Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is set to hold repeat elections in March, following the nullification of the previous polls by the Sports Disputes Tribunal. The elections, which will see incumbent president Nick Mwendwa face stiff competition from politicians, businessmen, and former footballers, have sparked heated debates among FKF's youthful members.

At various public participation forums held across the country, the youth have expressed their desire to be included in the National Executive Committee (NEC), the highest decision-making organ of FKF. According to outgoing FKF branch chairman Michael Ouma, the youth believe that their representation in the NEC is crucial, given that 95% of professional football players are below the age of 35.

"The youth have told us that ninety-five percent of those who play professional football are below the age of 35. So they want to be included in the NEC," Ouma explained.

Meanwhile, outgoing Nyanza NEC member Joseph Andere has revealed that members in the region have asked for the reviewing of the application fees for contestants vying in the forthcoming elections. The current fees range from Sh50,000 to Sh300,000, which Andere believes are too low and may attract unqualified candidates.

"Most of those in attendance were of the opinion the election fees were low and we risk attracting jokers as candidates," Andere said.
