On a fateful Sunday in January 2020, a horrific scene unfolded at the Ground for God's Gospel Ministries church in Bamburi, Mombasa. Pastor Elisha Misiko, 55, stabbed his wife at the pulpit before taking his own life, leaving the congregation in shock.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 10:30 am. Eyewitnesses claimed that Misiko aimed to stab his wife in the heart but she raised her hand to protect herself, sustaining injuries to her back, hand, and stomach.
After stabbing his wife, Misiko then slit his own throat, a tragic end to a life that was marked by marital woes. The couple's troubles had been reported to the Kiembeni Police Station in Kisauni on several occasions.
Police investigating the apparent murder-suicide recovered a 17-page suicide note detailing the couple's marital issues. The note revealed that Misiko had accused his wife of moving around with other men and wanting to divorce him and marry another man. He also claimed that she wanted to take the church and all property, which he believed belonged to him.
Police Commander Julius Kiragu confirmed that Misiko died on the spot, while his wife, Ann Mghoi, died at around 1 pm while receiving treatment at Coast General Hospital. The couple left behind three sons and a daughter.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary, where they were laid to rest.
