As of January 6, 2020, entrepreneurs in Kenya looking to start a small business have several options to consider. The cost of starting a business can vary greatly depending on the type of venture and the location.

Business Ventures with Lower Capital Requirements

For those with limited capital, starting a small butchery or a mobile money transfer business may be a viable option. A butchery in a low-income area can be started with an initial investment of around Ksh100,000, while a mobile money transfer business can be set up with a small shop for around Ksh200,000.

Business Ventures with Higher Capital Requirements

On the other hand, starting a gym and fitness center or a wines and spirits pub requires a significant amount of capital. The cost of setting up a gym in a high-income area can range from Ksh1,000,000 to Ksh3,000,000, while a large-sized wines and spirits pub can cost upwards of Ksh2,000,000.

Other Business Ventures

Other business ventures that require varying amounts of capital include selling second-hand clothes, starting a small grocery shop, and establishing a professional cleaning business company. The cost of starting these businesses can range from Ksh5,000 to Ksh1,000,000 or more, depending on the size and location of the business.
