Manchester United's pursuit of Paul Pogba could have an unexpected beneficiary: Toni Kroos. The German midfielder may join United as part of a deal that sends Pogba to Real Madrid, The Sun reports.

Despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's public support for Pogba, the £89million midfielder is reportedly eager to test himself at the highest level, with Real Madrid being his most likely destination.

However, United's lack of Champions League participation and their challenging task to qualify for next season's competition may hinder Pogba's transfer. Pogba is currently out for three to four weeks after surgery on an ankle problem, making a January transfer unlikely.

But United have shown interest in Kroos before, and the 30-year-old could end up as a makeweight in the Pogba deal in the summer. If Kroos doesn't join United, Real Madrid will reportedly look to offload him to make space for Pogba.

United legend Ryan Giggs has expressed disappointment with Pogba's performance since joining the club, stating that the midfielder has not consistently shown his quality.
