As of 2020, Xiaomi has begun shipping its global smartphones with Google's phone and messages applications pre-installed, replacing its own MIUI software experience.

This move is part of the company's efforts to comply with stringent data protection and privacy laws being enacted in various regions around the world.

Europe's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) took effect in May last year, while California's Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) went into effect at the start of this year.

While some Android device makers, such as Huawei, have also started shipping their devices with Google's messaging app, others like Samsung still insist on bundling their own messaging app alongside Android Messages.

According to reports, Xiaomi's decision to adopt Google's apps is a response to the increasing pressure from regulatory bodies to protect user data and privacy.
