On January 5, 2020, England all-rounder Ben Stokes made history by catching five South African wickets at Newlands, setting a new England Test record.

Stokes achieved this feat in the second Test against South Africa, with his fifth catch being that of Anrich Nortje off the bowling of James Anderson.

Notably, Stokes held all five catches at second slip, a remarkable display of his catching prowess.

England's previous 1019 Test matches had seen 23 instances of four catches in an innings, but Stokes' achievement marked a new milestone.

Interestingly, Stokes' record equalled the world Test record of five catches, which had been achieved 11 times previously, with the most recent instance being by Steve Smith of Australia in 2017/18, also at Newlands.
