On Saturday, a group of residents from Murang'a held a press conference to express their support for President Uhuru Kenyatta's development initiatives in the region.
According to the residents, led by Alex Mbote from Kigumo Sub-county and Joshua Mwangi from Kiharu, the region has benefited significantly from various development projects, including road construction and the connection of water and electricity.
They condemned a section of leaders, particularly from the region, who have been criticizing the President for allegedly doing little in terms of development for the people of Mount Kenya.
‘It is a shame that the President is being bashed by people who should be in the frontline to support his programmes,’ Mbote said.
He added that some leaders are raising political temperatures within the region, thereby frustrating the implementation of development projects.
Mwangi called upon leaders who are not committed to serving the people who elected them to resign, warning that premature campaigning for the 2022 general elections will derail development.
‘There are two years before the next General Elections, but some of our leaders who are trying to frustrate the war on corruption are busy accusing the government of doing nothing,’ Mwangi said.
Since Kandara MP Alice Muthoni Wahome criticized the President for dismal economic growth and limited political space, groups, leaders, and members of the public have come out to defend the President and his administration.
