Published on January 5, 2020, a leaked proposal by Cambridge Analytica to Tullow Oil has revealed a potential secret alliance between the two companies.
The proposal, titled 'Proposal for Research and Consultancy Services,' dated early 2013, outlined how Cambridge Analytica could help Tullow manage government expectations and engage positively with host communities in Turkana County.
According to the proposal, Cambridge Analytica's parent company, SCL Group, suggested providing a thorough audit of human and private sector skills in Kenya to support Tullow's commercial activities.
The proposal also included a detailed analysis of Turkana society to help Tullow understand how to engage with its host communities.
Cambridge Analytica, a political data analysis firm, was known for its work on the 2013 and 2017 Uhuru Kenyatta election and re-election, as well as the election of American President Donald Trump and the Brexit campaign.
While it is unclear whether Tullow Oil took up the offer, recent operations by the company have shown similarities to the suggestions put forth in the Cambridge Analytica proposal.
