On January 5, 2020, at around 5:30 am, Al Shabaab terrorists attempted to breach the security of the Manda Air Strip, a joint operation between the Kenya Defence Forces and the US Army, in Lamu County.

According to a statement by the Kenya Defence Forces, the soldiers successfully repulsed the attack, and four terrorists' bodies were found.

The statement read, 'This morning at around 5:30 am an attempt was made to breach security at Manda Air Strip. The attempted breach was successfully repulsed. Four terrorists bodies have so far been found. The airstrip is safe.'

Contrary to Al Shabaab's claim that the terrorists had inflicted casualties on both American and Kenyan soldiers, the KDF reported no loss of life.

The soldiers have taken control of the Manda Airstrip, where the attack started, and have secured the area.

A statement from the Counter Terrorism and National Security Intelligence confirmed that the attack was on the Manda Airstrip and not the army base.

The terrorists managed to destroy two US Military Helicopters and two light air crafts, as well as decommission several vehicles.
