On January 5, 2020, detectives from the Directorate of the Criminal Investigation (DCI) made a significant breakthrough in their investigation into the theft of electronics from ago-down in Athi River. The team recovered 243 TV sets in a Buru Buru residential house, which is believed to be part of the stolen goods.

A suspect, 56-year-old John Maina, was arrested during the operation and is currently in police custody. He will be arraigned in court on Monday to face charges of robbery with violence.

The recovered TV sets bring the total number of TVs recovered to 373, alongside several other electronics. The stolen property was valued at 15 million shillings.

Separately, three suspects were arrested for obtaining money by false presence. Jackline Magaya, Alex Kingwa, and one Sirere allegedly swindled unsuspecting job seekers 410,000 shillings by pretending to be in a position to help them get recruited as KDF officers. Police recovered fake KDF calling letters from the suspects.

Elsewhere, a middle-aged woman in Vihiga County was arrested for being in possession of bhang worth an estimated 500,000 shillings. Police received information that she was in possession of the illegal substance, and her arrest is seen as a major breakthrough in the war against drugs.
