Lawyer Miguna Miguna is set to return to Kenya on Tuesday, but his latest encounter with the government has sparked controversy.
On Saturday, his car was seized by government operatives in Nairobi's South B, but police backtracked after he complained on social media.
According to Miguna, the car was seized at 12:30 pm by five heavily-armed officers in plain clothes, who were using a civilian car.
The officers demanded the original copy of the log book from the person who Miguna had purchased the vehicle from in Mombasa, and warned the person not to contact Miguna.
However, after Miguna's social media protest, the commanding officer contacted the person who was holding the car and ordered its immediate release.
Miguna has expressed puzzlement over the incident, citing a pattern of behavior by the police, who had previously installed an electronic monitoring device on his car in February 2018.
He has vowed to return to Kenya despite the challenges, and has pinned a post on his Facebook account stating that there is no law compelling a citizen to produce a passport upon entry into their country of citizenship.
He has also emphasized the need for Kenyan authorities to obey multiple court orders when he lands in the country.
