Published on January 5, 2020, Equity Bank has unveiled 1,136 beneficiaries of its Wings to Fly scholarship, sponsored by the bank in partnership with MasterCard Foundation and the German government.
The scholarship, which covers tuition, books, uniform, transport, and pocket money, has been transformative for many bright but needy students in Kenya, according to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We laud Mastercard Foundation, Equity Group, and their Wings to Fly partners for their generous contribution for the past 11 years to this worthy course,” said President Kenyatta in a speech read on his behalf by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.
With the latest cohort, the total number of students who have benefited from the programme has reached 17,304 since its launch in 2010.
At the unveiling ceremony at Kenyatta University, Prof Magoha urged school heads to adhere to the fee guidelines as indicated by the ministry, warning that principals who violate the directive will face consequences.
Equity Group Foundation Executive Chairman James Mwangi advised the scholarship beneficiaries to make the best use of the opportunity and study hard to make their families and the community proud.
