Manchester United's hopes of signing Christian Eriksen have been dealt a significant blow, with the Tottenham midfielder reportedly on the brink of a move to Inter Milan.
According to Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, an agreement between Eriksen and Inter Milan is 'imminent', with the Italian club expected to pay around £20m for the 27-year-old player.
Eriksen has been at Tottenham since 2013 and has been one of the club's key players, making 300 appearances and scoring 69 goals in all competitions. However, his performances have tailed off this season, and he has been linked with a move away from north London.
United were one of the clubs touted with a move for Eriksen, but it appears they will miss out on the Danish midfielder. This comes after they also missed out on 19-year-old forward Erling Haaland, who opted to join Borussia Dortmund despite strong interest from United.
Jose Mourinho, Eriksen's current manager at Tottenham, has hinted that the midfielder's future lies away from the club. Speaking about Eriksen's future on Friday, Mourinho said: "I don’t know and I am being honest. You know the situation, in this moment he can agree with any club for the end of the season. That is one option. Another option is a club and himself want to do a deal in January, but in that situation our club is in control. We have the control of the situation."
