Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials have been asked to step down ahead of the upcoming polls, with the Coast region sub-counties demanding a free and fair election process.
Speaking at a public participation forum in Mombasa, FKF Mombasa chairman Goshy Ali, former FKF vice chairman Twaha Mbarak, former election board member Suleiman Gharib, and former Harambee Stars coach Mohammed Kheri called for the current FKF constitution to be amended to ensure office holders resign three months before the elections.
"The current officials must step aside for a free and fair elections because they are bound to interfere with the elections," Mombasa chairman Ali said.
The group also proposed that elections start from the sub-country level upwards and that all officials, including national officials, be elected at the same time.
They rejected the FKF's proposal to have sub-branch elections supervised by branch officials, saying it would not be free and fair.
Former Fifa referee Gharib criticized the selfishness of Kenyan football officials, saying many seek election posts to enrich themselves rather than serving the interests of players.
"We must change our mind set and stop receiving bribes during electioneering period and simply elect those officials we are sure will serve the interest of players and not enriching themselves," Gharib said.
