Published on January 4, 2020, contractors working on the multi-million Juja, Kihara, and Kikuyu markets in Kiambu County have until next week to complete the projects or face the risk of being pushed out.

According to Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga, the County Development and Implementation Committee will not tolerate any further delays, which could frustrate government efforts to deliver projects on time.

The markets, which are part of a larger urban development project, are behind schedule, with the Director of the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, Benjamin Njenga, stating that the contractors are three months behind schedule.

The Kihara market, which started construction two years ago at a cost of Sh180 million, is only 60% complete, while the Sh200 million Juja market, which was commissioned earlier, is 83% complete.
