January 4, 2020, marked a day of heated debate on social media as Kenyans reacted to Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris' decision to undergo spinal surgery in Ahmedabad, India.

While some wished her a quick recovery, others criticized the move, stating that leaders should prioritize the country's struggling healthcare system.

Many questioned why the government imported Cuban doctors if there weren't medical facilities to perform such surgeries in Kenya.

Some argued that there was a need to improve healthcare in the country to make it accessible to all, while others felt that Passaris had a right to seek treatment abroad.

David Ndii, a prominent Kenyan, came to Passaris' defense, asking, "Why are you so mean? Esther had two back surgeries in Kenya last year. Are you suggesting people in public life should sacrifice their wellbeing for political correctness?"

However, his words failed to quell the outrage, with many Kenyans expressing their discontent on social media.
