On January 2, 2020, a man in Nairobi fell victim to a recruitment scam for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). He was lured into the deal by Paul Parsamei Sirere, who promised to help him join the KDF.
The victim met Sirere and two accomplices, Jackline Magaya and Alex Kingwa, at Accra Hotel in Nairobi. They convinced him to pay Sh410,000 for a KDF calling letter, which they claimed would facilitate his recruitment.
However, the victim's friend raised suspicions about the letter's authenticity, prompting him to seek advice from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). DCI detectives informed the victim that the letter was fake and launched a manhunt for the suspects.
On Friday, DCI detectives ambushed the trio and found them with more fake calling letters. The three suspects, Paul Parsamei Sirere, Jackline Magaya, and Alex Kingwa, are currently under police custody and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
