On January 4, 2020, a devastating road accident occurred near Camunya Hotel in Ugunja town along the Kisumu-Busia highway, claiming the lives of two people and leaving two others seriously injured.
The accident involved a bus coming from the opposite direction, which swerved off its lane and rammed a saloon car carrying four people.
According to Siaya County Police Commander Francis Kooli, the bus was heading towards Kisumu when it veered off course and collided with the car.
The saloon car landed into a ditch on the side of the road, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives.
Police boss Kooli revealed that the bus driver, identified as Joseph Andrew, fled the scene after the accident.
The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the Ambira sub-county hospital mortuary, while the injured received treatment at Home Ground Hospital.
