On January 4, 2020, the Kenya Red Cross Society began dispatching relief food to thousands of flood victims in Tana Delta, Tana River County, whose homes were submerged due to heavy rains in the area.
The humanitarian organization used land cruisers, boats, and a tractor to dispatch the relief food worth over 10 million shillings to ensure those affected received enough aid for the whole month.
According to KRCS Regional Manager Hassan Musa, the organization aimed to distribute food first to the 1,220 households cut off within the Delta before proceeding to distribute aid to the other 1,200 people in Tana North who were also affected.
Speaking in Handaraku Village during the distribution exercise, Musa stated that 2,420 households and approximately 15,000 people in Tana River had been affected by the disaster, with the worst-hit area being the Tana Delta, which was totally submerged.
