On Christmas Day last year, a violent altercation took place at a bar in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi, leaving a Ministry of Transport official injured.

Patrick Gichuhe Marira, a casual labourer, pleaded guilty to assaulting Wycliffe Obuya, occasioning him injuries on December 25, 2019.

According to court records, Obuya was drinking at the bar when Marira walked in and pushed him. Despite the provocation, Obuya chose to ignore Marira and continued sipping his beer.

However, Marira returned and started assaulting Obuya, prompting members of the public to intervene and restrain him.

Obuya was treated at a local clinic before reporting the matter to the police, who issued him with a P3 form. A government surgeon also filled out the form, which was presented as an exhibit in court.

Prosecutor Jackie Kisoo presented the P3 form and a medical report from Morningside Clinic in Shaurimoyo as evidence.

Marira told Magistrate Lewis Gatheru that he had reached out to Obuya to settle the matter out of court and requested an early mention of the case for possible withdrawal.

The case will be mentioned on January 17, but Marira could face sentencing if Obuya does not withdraw the complaint.
