Francis Munyao, alias MCA Tricky, has been a household name since 2016, thanks to his hilarious performances on Churchill Show. However, few people knew that behind the street boy persona, he was a third-year student pursuing an engineering degree at Kenyatta University (KU).
Tricky graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from KU on December 20, 2019, a fact that shocked many of his fans. In a recent interview with The Saturday Nation, Tricky revealed that he had kept his higher learning a secret to avoid unnecessary attention in university.
“Everybody leads their life and you must not live your life with others. There is a life to live with others and there is a life to live alone,” Tricky said, explaining why he chose to keep his university life private.
Tricky's decision to keep his university life under wraps was also motivated by his desire to avoid distractions. He said that he would perform at KU as MCA Tricky, but he wouldn't announce his presence in class to avoid unnecessary attention.
Despite the challenges of balancing comedy and engineering, Tricky managed to excel in both fields. He admitted that he got several supplementary exams, but he never failed the retakes. Tricky said that he would often miss classes due to his comedy commitments, but he would make sure to ace all his units in the final year to avoid repeating.
Tricky's comedy career has improved his life drastically, and he is now able to pay his fees and support his family. He said that before joining Churchill Show, he was struggling to pay fees, but comedy has given him the opportunity to hustle and take care of himself.
Tricky's future plans include dropping the street boy persona and adopting a more versatile style. He said that he wants to make jokes that Kenyans won't relate to, but he also wants to appeal to a wider audience. Tricky plans to enrol for a master's degree at a university abroad later in the year and pursue a career related to engineering.
