On January 3, 2020, a Nairobi court granted East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) permission to collect beer bottles bearing its engravings, while also cautioning the company against publishing any further offensive adverts.

Commercial court judge Grace Nzioka made the ruling, stating that it would be unfair to stop EABL from collecting its bottles already in the market.

The dispute centers around the ownership of brown and green bottles used for packaging beer, with EABL and Keroche Breweries at odds over the matter.

According to the court, the distributors of Keroche's products had complained of harassment by the police for distributing beer in bottles engraved with EABL.

Justice Nzioka directed that EABL would not publish any further adverts, but could continue collecting its bottles already in the market.

The case will be heard again on January 24, 2020.
