On New Year's Eve, former world champion boxer Jorge Barrios was stabbed with a butcher's knife in Cordoba, Argentina.
According to his sister Edith Barrios, the incident occurred during a karaoke party where Barrios was enjoying time with his family.
Barrios was stabbed when a man he thought was being friendly hugged him, and he only realized he had been cut when his family started yelling and he saw he was bleeding.
The suspected assailant, Ramon Enrique Icardo, has been detained by local police accused of armed robbery and stealing Barrios' wallet containing over £250 and his documents.
Barrios, a WBO super featherweight champion between 2005 and 2006, has a record of 53 wins, four losses, and one draw.
He was previously convicted of negligent homicide after hitting a pregnant woman with his car, resulting in her death, and served a three-and-a-half-year sentence starting in November 2014.
